In order to renew an EMT certification prior to expiration, you must submit proof of 24 hours of approved EMS continuing education (CE) taken within the past two years. In order to renew an Paramedic certification prior to expiration, you must submit proof of 48 hours of approved EMS continuing education (CE) taken within the past two years. 50% of the hours must be Instructor Based. Instructor based CE’s are courses in which you are the student. This includes taking online courses where there is an instructor available to answer your questions within 24 hours. Prodigy makes available on our help menu the option to ask and instructor a question. This qualifies all Prodigy classes as Instructor Based The State of California does not certify, renew or reinstate EMT certifications. This is done by the local EMS agency and other authorized certifying entities.
At this time Prodigy does not maintain a training plan for your state. This doesn't mean you can't use Prodigy for your recertification. All of our credit classes have CAPCE accreditation and most states accept CAPCE accredited classes. You can reach out to your agency training staff of state EMS officials to find out more about using CAPCE credit in your state.
